What you actually get

The muscle car itself - roughly 15 centimetres of bodywork with room for a figure at the wheel - plus a catapult mechanism for launching attacks and an interaction tile that talks to the electronic figures from the starter courses. It arrived in 2024, is rated 8+, and at 458 pieces it is one of the more substantial builds in the theme.

How it plays

Roll Mario, Luigi or Peach over the tile and Bowser’s car becomes an event in the level - dodge it, chase it, or steal it. Without an electronic figure it is simply a very good brick-built car with a working launcher, and unlike most of the line it holds up as a display piece: the proportions read muscle car first, toy second.

Worth knowing first

This is an expansion set - the interactive tricks need a starter course figure, sold separately. The 8+ rating is honest: some of the bodywork techniques are fiddlier than the usual Super Mario fare, which is exactly why the finished car looks as good as it does.

Verdict

The set to buy a Mario fan who is starting to care how their builds look. It needs the Adventures with Mario Starter Course 71360 to show all its tricks, and the Mario Kart Yoshi Bike 72031 makes a worthy rival on the same shelf.
