Botanicals ยท Small Set

Two roses, 120 pieces, and a price that makes it the cheapest way into LEGO’s flower range. The LEGO Roses 40460 launched in January 2021 at $14.99, rated 8+, and according to Brickset left LEGO’s own shops in July 2022. It never really went away, though: Amazon still lists it as available at the time of writing, and it remains the small set people buy to pad out a bigger bouquet.

What you actually get

  • 120 pieces, rated 8+, at an original US price of $14.99 - about 12.5 cents per piece, which is normal for a set this small.
  • Two red roses with green leaves on stems you can lengthen or shorten; each stem is over 10 in. (26 cm) long, sized for a real vase.
  • No vase, no minifigures. It’s the flowers only. LEGO designed it to sit next to the Tulips 40461 and inside the bigger Flower Bouquet 10280.
  • Retired from LEGO’s own shops on 31 July 2022 per Brickset, but still sold on Amazon; the listing we link to shows the set as available, with a customer rating of 4.8 from more than 8,000 reviews.

How does it compare with the other LEGO flowers?

It’s the entry ticket, not the main event. For a bouquet that fills a vase on its own, our Wildflower Bouquet 10313 review covers the 939-piece set that does that job. For a single statement flower, the Orchid 10311 is the one on most shelves. The Roses fit in either picture: two red stems to add colour to a bouquet, or a small gift on its own. Our guide to the best LEGO flowers puts all of them side by side, with price per piece.

Is LEGO Roses 40460 worth it?

At $14.99, yes, as long as you know what it is: a half-hour build with two flowers at the end. It’s the right buy when you already own a bouquet and want red in it, or when you need a small gift that says something without costing much. It’s the wrong buy if you expect it to stand alone in a vase; two stems look thin without company.

Who it suits

Anyone extending a LEGO bouquet, people who want a Valentine’s or Mother’s Day gift that’s built rather than bought, and kids from 8 up, for whom this is an easy first flower set. The 8+ rating is real: the build is simple and there are no fragile techniques. For a couple’s gift that isn’t a flower at all, see our LEGO Art LOVE 31214 review.

Worth knowing first

Two practical notes. First, because the set is retired at LEGO, prices on marketplace listings move around; anywhere near $15 is fine, well above that is not, since the newer flower sets give far more for the money. Second, the stems are plain LEGO elements, so the roses look best in an opaque vase, where the joints are hidden.

Verdict

Two red roses in 120 pieces: the cheapest LEGO flowers, meant to be added to a bouquet rather than to replace one. Buy at or near $15. For where it sits among everything we’ve rated, see the best LEGO sets for adults. Check the current price of LEGO Roses on Amazon.
