LEGO Marvel I am Groot 76217 Review: 476 Pieces of Baby Groot

Marvel · Guardians of the Galaxy

Three words, 476 pieces. The LEGO Marvel I am Groot 76217 is a brick-built, poseable Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - a $54.99 set rated 10+, complete with a buildable cassette tape, that retired at the end of 2024 and remains the most-searched Groot set LEGO has made.

What you actually get

• 476 pieces, rated 10+, with an original US price of $54.99 - about 11.6 cents per piece.
• A poseable brick-built Baby Groot - head, arms and feet articulate, so he actually holds the dancing pose from the film opening instead of just standing there.
• The cassette tape accessory, a nod to the Awesome Mix, which is the detail people photograph.
• Launched June 2022, retired 31 December 2024 per Brickset - new copies now come from marketplace sellers, often above the original price.

How is it different from a minifigure set?

There are no minifigures at all - the model is the character. That makes it closer to a figure you build than a scene you assemble, and it’s why the set works as a gift for Marvel fans who have never touched LEGO: the result reads as movie merchandise, not as a toy. The 10+ rating is honest; the build is straightforward and the posing is the fun part.

Is LEGO I am Groot worth it?

Near its original $54.99, yes - it’s the definitive LEGO Groot, poseable where most display sets are static, and small enough to live on any desk. Above that, it’s a fan-price question: the set retired at the end of 2024, and marketplace pricing reflects that, so check the current listing against the original before deciding.

Who it suits

Guardians fans of any age past ten, desk decorators, and anyone buying for a Marvel person whose shelf already has the movie lines covered. It’s also one of the few sets in this range a kid and an adult want equally, for different reasons - which is rarer than it sounds. Skip it if you want a long build: this is an afternoon, not a weekend.

Worth knowing first

The joints are LEGO joints: they pose, but a heavy-handed re-pose can pop an arm, so it’s a display piece that tolerates handling rather than a toy that invites it. And since it’s retired, condition matters when buying - sealed-box listings are the safe default.

Verdict

The most charming thing in the LEGO Marvel line and our first Marvel review on the site - a low-stakes build with a high-recognition result. For where it sits among everything we’ve rated, see the best LEGO sets for adults. Check the current price of I am Groot on Amazon.
