LEGO Disney The Ice Castle 43197 Review: 1,709 Pieces of Frozen
Disney ยท Frozen
The biggest Frozen set LEGO ever made. The LEGO Disney The Ice Castle 43197 is Elsa’s palace at 1,709 pieces and 65 centimetres of translucent blue - a 14+ build launched at $219.99 in 2021, retired since the end of 2023, and still the set Frozen households ask about first.

What you actually get
- 1,709 pieces, rated 14+, with an original US price of $219.99 - about 12.9 cents per piece.
- A finished castle 65 ร 35 ร 19 cm with a throne room, bedroom, piano, fountain and chandelier inside - a real interior, not a facade.
- Nine figures per Brickset’s inventory - Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and a crowd of Snowgies, three of the figures unique to this set.
- Launched July 2021, retired 31 December 2023 - new copies now come from marketplace sellers, usually above the original price.
Is it a kids’ set or a display set?
Both, which is its trick. The 14+ rating reflects the build length, not the content: a Frozen-obsessed nine-year-old can play with the finished castle for years, while the translucent architecture is genuinely handsome on a shelf. Families end up treating it as a build-together project - an adult on the structure, a kid on the figures and furniture.
Is the LEGO Ice Castle worth it?
Near its original $219.99, yes - it’s the definitive Frozen set, with an interior most castles this size skip and figures three of which exist nowhere else. Since it retired at the end of 2023, the real question is the listing price in front of you: close to original is a strong buy for a Frozen household, collector markup is fan territory.
Who it suits
Frozen families first - it’s the one set that satisfies the fan who watches the film weekly and the parent who has to look at the result in the living room. Also Disney collectors filling the castle shelf. Less suited to pure display builders: the light-blue palette and play-friendly interior read warmer than an adult Icons set.
Worth knowing first
At 65 centimetres tall it needs real shelf clearance, and the translucent pieces show dust faster than solid bricks. If it’s a gift for a child, plan for the build to be shared - 1,709 pieces is a lot of evenings alone for a nine-year-old, and exactly the right amount together.
What builders say
We have not built this one ourselves. These are real comments from builders who have, taken from a public YouTube review.

The sheet music on the piano showing the first two lines of the chorus to "Let It Go" is a nice touch
Even though they took some liberties to make it more of a playset, this is one set where I actually really appreciate the "dollhouse" style with all the interior rooms visible on the back. I feel like the interior of Elsa's castle is as visually striking as the exterior in the film, so it's nice to see both so nicely represented.
My wife already bought it to go along with her Disney Castle set. Enjoying the build so far!
