What you actually get
- 4,210 pieces, rated 18+, at an original US price of $299.99 - 7.1 cents per piece, low for a licensed set and remarkable for one with this much black.
- A wide Gotham skyline in the show’s art-deco style, built as a display piece with the buildings in silhouette against a dark backdrop, the Bat-Signal in the sky, and a hanging option for a wall.
- 4 minifigures, 3 unique to this set per Brickset, drawn in the animated series style rather than the film look - which is the whole reason fans of the cartoon wanted this.
- A LEGO-direct exclusive, retired end-2025, so it never had the retail discounting cycle and now sits on the marketplace.
How does it compare with the other Batman sets?
Almost every Batman set is a vehicle or a bust. This is neither - it’s a piece of scenery, closer to an Icons landmark than a superhero playset, and it’s the only LEGO set that commits fully to the animated series look. Next to the Batman Cowl 76182 or the 1966 Batmobile, it’s the one that reads as art rather than merchandise.
It is also the largest Batman set LEGO has released by piece count, and the one you need a wall or a wide shelf for.
Is LEGO Gotham City 76271 worth it?
For a fan of the cartoon, at list price, yes - 4,210 pieces at $299.99 was generous, and nothing else scratches the same itch. Retired since the end of 2025, it’s now a marketplace set; three exclusive minifigures and a unique subject push prices up rather than down. If you find one close to list from remaining stock, that’s the buy. Above that it’s a collector’s decision, and an honest one: this set will not be re-released.
Who it suits
Adults who grew up with the 1990s series and want it on a wall, and display builders who like long, dark, architectural builds. Less suited to kids - nothing moves, nothing plays - and to anyone short on wall or shelf width. If you only know Batman from the films, the animated styling of the figures may look off; that’s a feature, not a bug.
Worth knowing first
Two practical notes. First, decide before you build whether it’s going on a wall or a shelf; the hanging setup is easier to do during the build than after. Second, four thousand mostly black and dark-grey pieces are hard to sort in bad light - build it at a table with a lamp, not on the sofa.
What builders say
We have not built this one ourselves. These are real comments from builders who have, taken from a public YouTube review.

Your Joker voice is so spot on! I've not heard a closer Mark's impression before. Bring that back more in your DC videos.
I really hope they make minifigure series with the characters that appeared on those little tiles
The only thing I feel that this set is missing is a reference to Phantasm,Mask of the Phantasm has been my favorite DC ANYTHING for YEARS.
Verdict
The biggest Batman set ever made and the only one in the animated series style: 4,210 pieces, three exclusive figures, and a retirement already behind it. For where it sits among everything we’ve rated, see the best LEGO sets for adults. Check the current price of Gotham City on Amazon.
